It is always exciting this time of the year, as we get to welcome talented young people to our Loden Family. We welcomed 10 new Loden Scholars through an orientation programme– 2 students joined virtually. Speaking to the scholars at the orientation, Loden’s Founder Lopen Karma Phuntsho gave the following advice: First, learn to think for yourself. You must practice self-discipline and time-management. Make the best use of the opportunity college life gives you by focusing on your study but also engaging in other meaningful activities. Second, get ready for adulthood. You must learn to be independent. You will have more freedom than ever before, but you must learn to handle your freedom responsibly. Study hard and enjoy responsibly. Third, our relationship goes beyond the scholarship funding. You are now a part of our Loden Scholar Network. As such, you can always reach out to us for any support – be it academic, emotional, social or financial. It is important to build social capital, and so, Loden Scholars should help each other. Now, you are all part of the Loden Family. You must grow intellectually and socially. There is a difference between having humility and lacking self-confidence. Never be afraid to ask questions in class – you must always learn with a sense of urgency. BE INQUISITIVE, BE BRAVE, BE CURIOUS AND ABOVE ALL, ALWAYS BE YEARNING TO LEARN. To the 10 new Loden Scholarship Recipients of 2021, we extend our warmest congratulations and welcome them to the Loden Family.
